The Labor-Management Center                         Labor Studies Certificate Program

FALL, 2007

Labor and Employment Law

This dynamic area of study, the law of the workplace, will explore: the rights of workers, unions, employers, and the role of government  in union and non-union settings in the private and public sectors. Topics will include: the National Labor Relations Act; the National Labor Relations Board; the Taylor Law and the Public Employment Relations Board; Organizing; Strikes, Picketing and Boycotts; Privacy Issues; Union Security; OSHA; the Fair Labor Standards Act; the Family Medical Leave Act;  Workers Compensation; and Anti-Discrimination Law.

The Labor Studies Certificate Program is designed to train union leaders in the skills and practical tools necessary for the leadership and administration of their unions.

All topics are taught by skilled professionals with academic credentials and practical experience. Classes are highly interactive and require the participation of every student.  Role-plays, case studies and mock presentations are used whenever practical.  Actual situations you and your union are experiencing will be addressed.  Classes can also be custom designed and offered at times and locations that best meet your Union’s needs.  Call for a free consultation.

Participants can register for the full semester; or for individual classes.  Students who complete the entire program (no more than one absence per semester) will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from The Labor-Management Center. Each semester (Fall, Winter, Spring) consists of ten classes, held from 6:00PM to 8:30PM. All classes are on Wednesday evenings at the Law Center, 180 Froehlich Farm Blvd., Woodbury, N.Y.

Fall Schedule of Classes:   October 3, through December 19, 2007
